If you’re looking to set up the new Janitor AI Qwen3 API available on OpenRouter, then I’ll teach you how to set it up quickly in a simple and easy way, and I’ll also tell you about the errors that come up when you use or set up the Qwen3 API with your Janitor AI account.

How to use the Qwen3 API with Janitor AI?

You just need to follow my simple steps to set up the Qwen3 free proxy on your Janitor AI account.

Step 01: First, go to this site – https://openrouter.ai/qwen/qwen3-235b-a22b-07-25:free. You need to create an API key there.

Step 02: Now, simply click on Create API Key. Name your API key and create it. Once your API key is generated, simply copy it.

Step 03: Next, open your Janitor AI account and go to your API settings. Select Proxy, choose the Custom option, and paste your API key into the API KEY section below.

Step 04: Add the model name of the API. In this case, we are using qwen/qwen3-235b-a22b-07-25:free, so simply copy it from here and paste it into your Model box.

Step 05: After this, add the proxy endpoint URL. Simply copy it from below and paste it into the Other API/Proxy URL section. You can check the screenshot below to get an idea of how and where to put all of this.

Step 06: Once you’ve added all this information, simply click on Check API Key/Model to verify if it’s working. If you get a message like “Valid API Key, click Save Settings, and you can start chatting with your bots now,” then you can move on to the next step. However, if you don’t get this message or if you receive a network error, wait for a few minutes and try again. Sometimes you need to recheck everything to make sure you’ve entered the correct information in each section and haven’t added anything extra, like a space. Also, sometimes it works even if you don’t get any message after clicking on Check API Key/Model.

Step 07: Add your custom prompt if you have one. If you don’t, you can create one or use the custom prompts that I’ve provided in my other post (I’ve left a link below). Then, simply click on Save Settings. After that, refresh the page, and you’re good to go.

Pro Tip: Optimal Settings For the best experience, use moderate temperature settings (0.7–0.9) and make sure your character card includes detailed descriptions for better roleplay quality. Also, don’t forget to turn off text streaming.

Janitor AI Qwen3 Proxy Error 429: Rate limit exceeded

When you’re using the Qwen3 235B A22B 2507 (free) proxy, you might get a 429 Proxy Error. If you’re new, you should know that you only get 40-50 requests per day, and it resets every day at 00:00 UTC.

If you want more requests (up to 1,000 per day), you need to add $10 to your OpenRouter account to unlock the higher daily limit. This unlocks an increased limit of 1,000 requests per day for all free models like Qwen3-235B.

Credits expire after one year if unused, but having a $10+ balance triggers the higher daily limit regardless of usage.

Qwen3 API is not working in my country

If the Qwen3 API is not working in your country, you can access it with the help of a VPN. Use a good VPN, and yes, it should be turned on all the time. You can use NordVPN, as it works well in almost every scenario.
